Meet Chapter 1. This is the first chapter of my version of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. The next upload should be sometime next week, and we will get to Pokemon then.
“Alexa, can you get the door?” yelled Alexa’s mom from the second floor.
“On it, mom,” Alexa yelled back, already heading for the front door.
Opening it, Alexa had expected to find one of her neighbours on an errand, and had arranged her face in a way that could look helpful while being completely uninterested, and was surprised, and rather shocked, to find a stranger at the door. To point of fact, he wasn’t a complete stranger, but she had never met him in person before.
The young man on the doorstep had shiny jet black hair, obviously uncombed but looking quite nice all the same, and he had a rather handsome face, pale but not unhealthy, with highly intelligent features. Despite knowing that he was only 16, and therefore not completely through puberty, Alexa found herself looking a long way up, the young man being at least 2 meters tall. All of this would have appeared vaguely unusual, taken with his functional black jeans and black T-shirt, but his eyes caught attention and held it. They were nearly ice coloured, being just a few shades off white, and the just barely blue colour was striking.
Alexa gave a small gasp, ignoring he mother’s calls asking who was at the door, and continued to stare at the young man.
He looked vaguely uncomfortable with her stares, despite the fact that she believed he should be used to them at this point.
After a moment, her friend Markus came over to the door, “are you just going to stand-!” he stopped his question short, staring at the young man as well.
The stranger gave Alexa a slightly sideways look, “I guess you’re a fan?” He asked, his voice almost unnaturally calm.
“Y-yeah,” Alexa managed to gasp, “b-but, what are you doing at my house?”
“If I could come in, I could explain that to your mother, as well as you and your friend,” replied Daniel Wilson, 16-year old former Snowpoint City Pokémon Gym Leader, record holder, and underage University student.
A few minutes later, Daniel was explaining the situation as it had been outlined by his mentor, Professor Rowan, earlier in the day, “The Professor is interested in your talent, Alexa,” he said, coming directly to the point with his typical straightforwardness, “Your skill with Michina, the Pokémon language, fascinates him with it’s possible uses in Pokémon research and training.
“But there are other people who can speak Michina, I’ve researched it,” Alexa jumped on a point at the first opportunity, “Why am I so imperative for this particular project?”
Daniel briefly wondered at the extreme and instantaneous practicality, even at the cost of the opportunity of a lifetime. Of course, knowing her lineage, this trait wasn’t so surprising. “Professor Rowan believes, firstly, that your relationship with him, as he is your grandfather, could be useful for research purposes. Additionally, Michina was actually an instinctive language for you, giving you a much deeper understanding of such a complicated tongue. Finally,” he continued as Alexa started to interrupt, “Other Michina speakers are rather too busy with other business to assist the Professor in research.”
Alexa nodded, “So grandpa wants me to take on the Pokémon League challenge?” she asked.
Daniel tilted his head slightly to one side, remaining supremely calm, “I thought I explained that.”
Markus burst out laughing. After a moment, though, he realized that Daniel had avoided mentioning his participation on the journey, “Am I coming too?” he asked, suddenly feeling worried.
Daniel smiled very slightly, just barely twitching the corners of his mouth, “Your father specifically asked that you be included on this journey, Markus,” he replied.
Markus spent a moment processing this information. His father was possibly more famous than Daniel, and Markus certainly resented that he wasn’t home often enough. However, Markus now had a chance to show him up by going on a Pokémon League Challenge.
Meanwhile, Alexa had pressed on with the conversation, seeing a gaping hole in the particular strategy that Daniel was explaining, “Uh, won’t we need a guide?” she wondered aloud, directing the question in the general direction of her mother and Daniel, “I mean, neither of us has ever been beyond Jubilife City except by train.”
Daniel nodded, “I was waiting to see when anyone would notice that particular discrepancy,” he answered, “and I apologize for not explaining sooner, but the Professor asked me to accompany you as a guide and trained researcher.”
At this point, Markus jumped back into the conversation, “Then what are we waiting for!” he nearly yelled in his excitement, “Let’s go pack right away!”
Before anyone could stop him, Markus was out the door and on the road to his own house. Alexa’s mother turned to Alexa, “You should pack too, honey,” she told Alexa, “Daniel and I will discuss some other issues of your journey.”
Alexa seemed to bounce over to the staircase, then she disappeared up the stairs. When she was sure Alexa couldn’t hear them, Alexa’s mother turned to Daniel, “This isn’t just about research, is it,” she stated, “I keep in contact with most of the Michina speakers in Sinnoh, and it is highly unlikely that all of them would be busy at once.”
Daniel fixed his gaze on her, his face impassive, “No, this isn’t just about research,” he replied, “But many of the Michina speakers in Sinnoh are busy right now.
“There has been a recent spike in Pokémon thefts in urban areas,” he continued, “Many Michina speakers are contacting urban Pokémon to inform them of safety measures and gather intelligence. The Champion contacted me as well, and she told me that her research indicates that, if the projected Michina calendar continues to be correct, there will soon be a catastrophe on a world wide scale,” Alexa’s mother gasped, “So she recommended that I take two of the children here and begin a Challenge, because the calendar predicts the only possible salvation coming from this area.”
Alexa’s mother gaped, but quickly regained her composure, “Please don’t tell Alexa or Markus,” she asked, “It might destroy their confidence to know something this big hinges on them.”
Daniel hadn’t intended to inform the two of them until absolutely necessary, so he reassured Alexa’s mother and then headed to Markus’ house to inform his mother of the journey.
Alexa skipped up the stairs and headed for her bedroom, listing what supplies she might need under her breath. However, as she passed Elliot’s room, he yelled, “What are you doing, training an Onix?” Loud thumps followed the yell, and his door opened as the 10-year old menace emerged.
Elliot was hardly imposing. He was three years younger than Alexa, but he had three times the attitude, as Alexa saw it. He spent most of his time on his Pokémon Simulator, which he had received for his last birthday. His biggest dream this week was to become a Pokémon Transport Official.
“What’s going on,” he asked, “Why are you thumping around like an overweight Donphan?”
“Daniel Wilson is here,” Alexa replied smugly, “He asked me to become a Pokémon Trainer and take the Pokémon Gym Challenge.”
Elliot’s mouth dropped open, “Can I come?” he asked quickly.
Alexa gave him a withering look, “Markus is coming already,” she answered, “And I thought you wanted me out of your life be any means necessary,” she continued coolly.
Elliot pouted, “No fair!” he cried, “I didn’t know any means necessary meant THIS!”
Alexa artfully ignored his continued griping and headed to her room to pack her bag. Within 5 minutes, she had packed several sets of matching clothing, her diary, 3 pairs of shoes, her sleeping bag, her EBook, and any Pokémon Training guide she could find, all in her travel pack.
When she arrived downstairs, she discovered that Markus was already hopping in place, waiting, with his personal brand of largely ineffective impatience. Daniel was also waiting, while much calmer. He had always seemed calm when she’d seen him in media, never losing his composure.
“We should go,” said Daniel, stepping forward from where he was leaning on the counter, “The Professor hates being kept waiting in a situation like this.”
“He’s meeting us?” Alexa wondered aloud.
“Of course,” said Daniel, rather surprised, “He would never miss something like this.” Seeing Alexa’s expression, he continued, “He loves starting trainers in his area off. He will meet us at Lake Verity, so you aren’t to intimidated,” he smiled very slightly, the first real expression Alexa had seen him make, ever.
